About the Department
The Department of Applied Mathematics, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad University of Technology, West Bengal has been dynamically engaged in research, teaching and training program. The department initiated a 3- year B.Sc program in Mathematics and Computer Applications in 2020 and next year started a 2-year M.Sc. program in Applied Mathematics. The department also supports all the engineering and science departments of the institute by offering different papers of Mathematics at the undergraduate and postgraduate programs like B.Sc, BCA, B.Tech. MBA, MCA, M.Tech. in several semesters. The department has at present 10 energetic and dedicated faculty members in many diverse areas of Pure and Applied Mathematics. The department has its own state-of-the-art scientific computing laboratories. The department has also been actively engaged in organizing conferences, workshops, short term courses and training programs for both teachers and students. Several research scholars are working in the department under the supervision of different faculty members. The Department has an active Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) program which attracts graduates from premier research institute across the country. We also promoting mathematics education and collaborative research.

Program Description:
1. B.Sc in Mathematics and Computing is a four-year, eight-semester full time graduate degree program.
Application Process:Candidates have to apply through Common Entrance Test (CET).
Eligibility for Admission:
Passed / appeared /due-to-appear at the Higher Secondary Examination with Mathematics subject in the General or Vocational Stream under the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education or its equivalent examination / Undergraduate Program as prescribed from a recognized Board / University .
2. MSc in Applied Mathematics is a two-year, four-semester full time post graduate degree program.
Application Process:Candidates have to apply through Common Entrance Test (CET).
Eligibility for Admission:
Candidates who have completed their Graduation i.e., Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, Information technology/ computer science/ Physics/ Statistics or allied subjects. Graduates of Engineering/ Technology are also eligible.
3. Ph. D. in Mathematics/ Applied Mathematics
Application Process:(i) The applicants who have cleared UGC-NET (including JRF)/UGC-CSIR NET (including JRF)/SLET/GATE/teacher fellowship holder or have passed M.Phil. program/ M.Tech. or equivalent examinations can apply directly.
or (ii) The Admission Test for the Ph.D. program will also be conducted by the Department of Applied Mathematics. Candidates who fulfilled the criteria 3(i) shall be exempted from giving the Written Test (RET).
The selection of a candidate shall be determined on basis of their performance in the Interview conducted by the subject specific PhD Committees.

Eligibility for Admission:
Candidates seeking admission to the Ph.D. program under the university must have minimum 55% marks or an equivalent CGPA in the qualifying Master’s degree examination/ M. Tech. or M.Phil. program or equivalent examinations.
Note:
Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC (non-creamy layer)/Differently-abled categories shall have minimum 45% marks or an equivalent CGPA.
A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, may be allowed to the candidates, who obtained their Master's degree prior to 19th September, 1991.
The eligibility marks of 55% (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and the relaxation of marks to the categories mentioned above are permissible based only on the qualifying marks without including the grace marks.
